Director of Nursing – Private Day Surgery

Sunshine Coast, QLD
Full‑Time | Permanent | Flexible Hours
Salary: $160,000+ Super (dependent on experience)
Relocation assistance available for the right candidate
Planned start: May 2026

Lead From the Front. Build Something New. Shape the Future.

This is a rare and exciting opportunity to step into a foundational leadership role at a brand‑new private day surgery on the Sunshine Coast, purpose‑built with three operating theatres and backed by an established healthcare group.

We are seeking a strong, visible perioperative leader, someone who thrives on leading from the front, enjoys autonomy, and is excited by the opportunity to create their own journey while building a high‑performing service from day one.

The role is planned to commence in May 2026, allowing the incoming Director of Nursing to be deeply involved in final preparations, team build, and service readiness ahead of opening.

For candidates located interstate, relocation assistance is available to support a move to the Sunshine Coast.

The Opportunity

As Director of Nursing, you will play a pivotal role in bringing this new day surgery to life. This is not a desk‑based role, we are looking for a leader who is operationally strong, clinically credible, and passionate about setting standards, building culture, and driving excellence in perioperative services.

Backed by an experienced executive team and a wider healthcare network, you will also have the freedom and authority to shape the service, the team, and the way care is delivered.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the clinical, operational, and financial performance of the facility
  • Take ownership of P&L, budgeting, and performance outcomes
  • Build, mentor, and inspire a brand‑new perioperative team
  • Establish strong, trusted relationships with surgeons and VMOs
  • Oversee NSQHS accreditation, governance, and compliance
  • Create a positive, engaged workplace culture grounded in safety and quality
  • Lead service start‑up, stabilisation, and future growth
  • Be a visible leader on the floor, setting the benchmark for best practice

About You

You are a confident perioperative leader who:

  • Is a Registered Nurse with current AHPRA registration
  • Has leadership experience in private day surgery or hospital environments
  • Brings strong theatre and perioperative expertise
  • Is commercially astute and comfortable managing budgets
  • Has a solid working knowledge of NSQHS standards
  • Leads with credibility, accountability, and clarity
  • Enjoys building teams, systems, and culture — not inheriting them

Most importantly, you are someone who wants to own this role, leave your mark, and grow alongside the service.

Why You’ll Love This Role

  • Brand‑new facility with three modern operating theatres
  • Opportunity to build a service from the ground up
  • Strong executive and group‑level support
  • Autonomy, ownership, and real influence
  • Competitive salary package starting at $160,000 + super (dependent on experience)
  • Relocation assistance available for the right interstate candidate
  • Planned May 2026 start, allowing time for transition and preparation
  • Sunshine Coast lifestyle paired with a genuine senior leadership opportunity
