Client Overview

A national not-for-profit organisation providing health services to communities across Australia needed an experienced Workplace Relations Manager to step in on a 6-month contract. The role involved supporting the organisation nationally and leading a team of Employee Relations Advisors during a period of internal movement.

The Challenge

With a quick turnaround and a niche role requirement, the client sought MAYDAY’s support. The challenge was finding a candidate with strong people leadership skills, deep industrial knowledge, immediate availability and alignment with the organisation’s values and mission, while also being happy to commit to a short-term, six-month contract.

Our Approach

MAYDAY combined deep HR expertise with a proactive, network-led approach to recruitment.

Our strategy included:

  • Taking a hands-on, consultative approach to understand the client’s immediate needs and organisational culture.
  • Using targeted headhunting, our HR network and candidate referrals to identify candidates with both leadership experience and alignment to the organisation’s values.
  • Sourcing and interviewing candidates directly to ensure a strong fit for skills, experience and cultural alignment.
  • Coordinating timely client interviews and managing the offer process to secure a resource without delay.

The Impact

  • The Workplace Relations Manager was successfully placed within the required timeframe, preventing disruption to leadership
  • Enabled the HR team to provide consistent, expert guidance to Employee Relations Advisors across the nation
  • Strengthened organisational capability, ensuring staff were supported effectively during internal changes.
  • Enhanced the client’s ability to continue delivering high-quality health services to communities without interruption.
  • Reinforced trust in MAYDAY’s partnership approach, providing confidence for future strategic hires.

I had the pleasure of working with Alice Rimmer from MAYDAY Recruitment, who helped me secure my next role. Alice was incredibly responsive and proactive throughout the entire process. She was quick to respond, represented me exceptionally well to the organisation, and regularly checked in to ensure I felt supported and prepared for each stage of the recruitment process. Her communication, professionalism, and genuine care made the experience seamless. Alice is an absolute pleasure to work with, and I’d highly recommend her to anyone seeking their next opportunity.
